Leave a Couple Bites

As you may remember, I’m working on addressing some lifestyle habits to help me on my mission to live healthier. My first attempt – Ditch the Bubbles – has been really successful so far.

Even though my commitment to not drinking soda is an ongoing effort, I feel confident that I have it under control enough that I’m ready to pursue the next habit change.

Cleaning My Plate

I don’t know where I got this – it wasn’t something my mom ever made me do as a kid – but I’m terrible about eating until I’m way past full, just so that I can clean my plate. Sometimes, it’s because the food just tastes that good. (Considering Boyfriend’s cooking and grilling abilities, this is usually the case.)

Other times, it’s just because it’s there, and I don’t like food to go to waste.

Regardless, because of this “clean my plate” mentality, I’m often overeating to the point of discomfort and squashed nutrition goals.

So, my next habit change is to leave a couple bites. I will serve myself the same amount of food I always do, but I will work on leaving behind two to three bites. Over time the amount of calories in those bites will really add up. Bonus: It will help me stay more in tune with how hungry or full I really am, and savor each bite.

The trick is going to be leaving a couple bites of the right stuff – meaning it doesn’t count if I’m leaving the veggies on my plate but polishing off the potatoes. (Don’t get me wrong, I like my veggies… but I’m definitely a carb-lover. Dang it anyway.)
